Cellist Mitchell Lyon approaches music making with a zest for harnessing the unique power of musical experience. At home with audiences of all types, he has performed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to intimate house concerts. In addition to work within the classical repertoire, Mr. Lyon enjoys exploring improvisation, folk music styles and the potential of electronic amplification and looping.
A firm believer in the importance of arts outreach, Mr. Lyon works as a Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic. In addition he has led three teams of Juilliard students to New Orleans for outreach work and has held a number of teaching and outreach fellowships. He holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School where he studied with Bonnie Hampton and Timothy Eddy.
